Then We Dry Out for the Labor Day Weekend
We continue to remain in a northwest flow aloft and weather disturbances continue to move along from northwest to southeast. Overnight we saw showers and some thunderstorms with the heaviest weather over Southeastern Pennsylvania and Southern New Jersey. Severe weather risks shift southward today cutting off along the New York State Northern New Jersey line. The higher risk area lies south in Maryland and Virginia.
We remain inside a very warm and humid air mass. Some sunshine is likely to break out into this afternoon once any morning showers are out of the way. Then we could see some showers and thunderstorms developing this afternoon and evening. Dew points remain very high and rather than severe weather, we will watch for the possibility of a heavier thunderstorm dumping heavy rain. The risk for local flash flooding continues. High temperatures today will generally be in the mid to upper 80s.

Once we get through the evening hours showers and storms die off. A frontal boundary to the north will start to drop southward. This sets up Friday as a very warm day with high humidity and we will throw in the risk there could be some afternoon scattered showers and thunderstorms though the risk for severe weather is likely to be further south in the Central Mid Atlantic. Highs Friday again will be in the 80s.
Moving on to the Labor Day Holiday weekend, a storm system in Atlantic Canada will control the flow along the coasts of the Northeast and Mid Atlantic. A northerly flow aloft will being drier air from Eastern Canada southward into the Northeast and Mid Atlantic states. Dew points will drop to the upper 50s and lower 60s Saturday and in the 50s for Sunday and Monday.
Both Saturday and Sunday will feature a mix of sun and clouds. Due to the storm system to the east we will have occasional rounds of instability clouds and there is the risk for some scattered pop up showers but it is a situation that a majority of you will be dry most if not all of the time. No thunderstorms are forecast. Highs Saturday and Sunday will be in the upper 70s and lower 80s. Monday Labor Day looks to be partly to mostly sunny with comfortable conditions. Highs again will be in the upper 70s and lower 80s. It is a solid finish to the summer vacation season.
