Winter Weather Wind Advisory Christmas Eve 2017

Winter Weather and a Wind Advisory is in effect for much our area today and tonight. We are going to see some snow tonight in Northeastern Pennsylvania to just inland of the coast, across the Hudson Valley and Connecticut. Most inland areas north and west of NYC Philadelphia to Boston should see a White Christmas on the order of a couple of inches. Coastal areas won’t see much out of this unless there is a burst of snow that occurs on the western side of the rapidly developing coastal low. Some models are showing this idea during the early morning hours before daybreak on Monday Christmas morning.

WINTER WEATHER ADVISORY RGEM SNOW FORECASTS

This morning at least weather conditions are rather tranquil for the most part with just some arriving clouds from the west. Any precipitation should hold off until this evening as low pressure develops over Western Pennsylvania and redevelops just east of our coastline.

Tonight into Christmas morning for coastal areas and for New Jersey & Pennsylvania south of Route 78 there will be some rain. North of there some snow overnight into daybreak Monday. After that as the low strengthens to the east we will see strong gusty winds and some sunshine developing on Christmas Day with temperatures in the 30s. With precipitation ending early I think travel issues should be minimal in most areas even where snow falls and accumulates a couple of inches.

WEEK AHEAD VERY COLD..SNOW THREATS POSSIBLE

The week ahead looks very cold as strong high pressure builds southward from Eastern Canada. Temperatures will be in a stair step decline all week and by Thursday & Friday we will be dealing with daytime highs just in the 20s and nighttime lows in the teens and single digits.

GFS FORECAST THURSDAY EVENING DECEMBER 28

winter waether

Now that we have a better handle on late next week it appears that there are two snow threats on the table and it is quite possible that we may not see anything from either one. The polar jet stream is so strong that there may not be any room for this system and another late in the weekend to move up the East Coast. If this is the case it looks to be very cold into the New Year and in fact the coldest of the cold air could come down for New Years Day.
