Winter Weather Advisory Sussex & Warren County NNJ, Northeast To South Central Pa

The National Weather Service has put up a Winter Weather Advisory for Warren County in Northwest New Jersey. Much of Eastern Pennsylvania except the Southeast Counties are under a Winter Weather Advisory as well as all of Central Pennsylvania.

Nothing is happening tonight. The satellite shows us under mainly clear skies and we should be clear through much of the night. What looks like clouds in the Northeast and Northern Mid Atlantic actually is snow cover. Temperatures tonight will be cold as we bottom out in the 20s everywhere.

Nothing is on the regional radars right now but we will see snow developing in Western Pennsylvania overnight and spreading rapidly eastward; reaching Eastern Pennsylvania before 9am. It reaches the coast by 10 or 11am with snow inland and rain along the immediate coast.

There could be a burst of moderate snow inland for a few hours and then warmer air will come in and start to change the snow to rain before it ends in the afternoon. Along the coast it is mostly rain except for maybe a little snow at the start. Temperatures will be rising quickly and reaching the mid 30s to lower 40s during the afternoon.

This is a fast moving system and a southwest wind inland doesn’t warm much because it just hasn’t had any time to do so. Along the coast it will be more of a south wind off the 40 degree ocean which warms the boundary level above the ground over the freezing mark rather quickly. Either way this comes and goes. Tuesday we should see some sunshine with highs in the 40s.

Wednesday could be an interesting day depending how much sun we get. We certainly could see a day where temperatures outperform forecasts by a sizeable margin but at the very least we should see 50s just about everywhere. A cold front passes but there won’t be much with it. The week finishes colder but dry. Next weekend could bring clouds and rain at some point but for now, the block is gone and the access to cold air is cut off from Canada.

Here are the snow forecast maps for Monday from both the NWS and my own. I went a little more aggressive in Pennsylvania but mostly in line everywhere else.
