Winter Weather Advisory Snow Ice
A Winter Weather Advisory is in effect for Northern New Jersey, the Hudson Valley and Connecticut north of Rt 15. This really isn’t going to be any big deal today as we are talking about an inch or so of snow at most, mainly on grassy surfaces. The National Weather Service is also indicating a small amount of ice accumulation in their forecast. Frankly I don’t see it in the cards or if it is, it will be minimal at best as temperatures overnight will be rising.
Satellite loops show the first of two systems heading our way with the first one in the east and much weaker than the second one back through Texas which is taking on that classic comma shape signature look. Radars below are showing the first round of precipitation loading up and moving northward along the coast. Southern areas in New Jersey and Southeastern Pennsylvania are already in it and there it is rain. It really doesn’t become a wet snow issue until you get north of route 78 in Pennsylvania and New Jersey and not until this afternoon and into this evening.
The second system will become tomorrow’s major storm which moves through the Ohio Valley and heads into Eastern Canada. 2 inches or more of rain is forecast with that one along with strong southerly gales along the coast. The heaviest rain will be Wednesday afternoon and Wednesday night. Weather conditions will improve area wide on Thursday. There are no changes to my snowfall forecast map that I put out yesterday.
