Winter Weather Advisory Snow 1 to 3 Inches Possible Cold Dry Weekend

Winter Weather Advisories continue today for much of the Mid Atlantic and Northeast as we still have a stalled out frontal boundary to the east and we are still dealing with waves of low pressure moving along it. 2 such waves will be moving along it today. Each wave could produce a coating to an inch or two of snow.

We sat overnight in lots of clouds and temperatures in the 20s. Patchy areas of freezing drizzle have slickened things up a bit to begin with. The satellite shows clouds still up and and down the East Coast. Each wave brings some eastward progress so we should finally see improving weather conditions tonight and for the weekend.

In the meantime we are seeing waves of precipitation on the radar with most of it snow though there is some freezing rain and even plain rain showing up in warmer areas of the Mid Atlantic. Movement is to the northeast,

The amount of precipitation being produced by these waves isn’t much. The first wave goes by this morning and the second late this afternoon and evening. Eventually the second wave develops offshore but far enough out to spare us anything substantial.

The NAM model today moves these systems along and you can see when the last one pushes out to the east tonight weather conditions finally start to get better. Most temperatures today will hold in the upper 20s and lower 30s. Skies should partially clear out tonight with lows in the mid to upper 20s.

High pressure builds in for the weekend. We will have sunshine Saturday and Sunday. Highs will be in the upper 20s and lower 30s both days and Saturday night will be cold with lows in the teens and low 20s. It is simple and straight forward as well as well deserved after 5 storms over the last 3 weeks. Monday brings a fast moving front and with the high moving out to the east we set up with a southwest wind ahead of it. Rain and snow showers are likely with the front with rain down near the coast and snow well inland. Highs should reach into the 40s for most areas except north and west of the major cities where cold air may be a bit stubborn and there could be a burst of snow ahead of the front before it passes as the GFS shows. The long range shows rather quiet weather conditions next week with no storm threats to produce much in the way of rain or snow. Weak fronts in a northwest flow seem to be the set up going into the last days of February. Then we will see whether March and its notorious stormy pattern rears its ugly head.
