The first winter weather advisories have been posted this morning for parts of Eastern Pennsylvania, Northern New Jersey, to northern areas of NYC, the Hudson Valley & Southern Connecticut with Winter Storm Watches posted for areas from Northern Connecticut into Central New England. It is still early and we expect other National Weather Service offices to join in later today.

We have the National Weather Service snow forecasts from this storm and it appears that either amounts were left the same overnight and in some areas amounts were nudged a little higher. It isn’t much of a change to make a big difference in terms of what to expect. That remains the same. It will snow for about 4 to 6 hours, we get what we get and then it changes to sleet and rain for a short timer before it all ends.

My final call snow forecast was made yesterday and it remains unchanged. My outlook here is based on cold air holding on for an extra hour or so and the radar being perhaps a shade more robust than modeled which is what we saw overnight. No need to change things here since this is not going to have to time to produce any additional upside.

Meanwhile today howling winds continue thanks a storm approaching Newfoundland which is becoming a major ocean storm bringing heavy snow and hurricane force winds to the Canadian Maritime Provinces. That has brought down very cold air as we bottomed in the upper teens and low 20s this morning and we wont be getting out of the 20s for the most part today in spite of sunshine.

Tonight  will be clear for most of the night with diminishing winds and very cold with lows in the teens and single digits which sets us up for Saturday. Clouds increase rapidly in the morning. Snow breaks out around or after lunch time and then gradually changes over to rain from southwest to northeast later in the afternoon and evening. Shortly after the change to rain the precipitation ends and we move on the drier conditions on Sunday. Highs Saturday will reach from the 30s in areas north and west of Philadelphia to mid and a few upper 30s along the coast. Sunday looks like sunshine returns along with some clouds and cold temperatures just into the 30s. Cold dry weather starts off the first half of next week.
