Winter Weather Advisory is posted today for Northwest New Jersey, most of Northeastern Pennsylvania and the Catskills. We have an area of moisture with the first of several waves of low pressure that are heading east for the next several days. It is hard to imagine that after a day like yesterday with record highs and all time highs in the 70s to near 80, we are dealing with wintry weather again but such is the case when the rubber band in the atmospheric pattern is stretched to an extreme; it snaps back in a hurry. Temperatures by late this afternoon and evening will be 40 degrees colder than where we were at this time yesterday. Sleet, freezing rain and some wet snow will come into play during this afternoon while some rain showers are playing through this morning. Along coastal areas it will be a chilly period of rain though some sleet might mix in even along some coastal areas. Most of this will occur this afternoon into early evening before it all comes to an end.  Temperatures today are starting the day at their highs and we will be dropping into and through the 30s into this evening. Many areas will be near or slightly below freezing in the advisory zone by mid afternoon.

Radars are looking rather busy for the moment as moisture is streaming eastward across Pennsylvania. Until temperatures fall a bit more most of what is on here is in the form of rain on the local radar views.

As far as accumulations are concerned, I think it will be minimal and not a huge deal. Some areas however could see up to a tenth of an inch of ice. As for snow/sleet accumulation we are talking mainly and inch or less.

WINTER WEATHER ADVISORY SNOW ACCUMULATION FORECAST

Once this moves out this evening it should be dry until Friday midday into the afternoon as another round of precipitation moves through. Once again in the same areas as today there could be some sleet or freezing rain with just a chilly rain everywhere else. This also looks to be light and should be done by Friday evening. Temperatures Friday will be in the 30s and 40s. Then we warm up into the weekend as another area of low pressure develops. Saturday right now doesn’t look too bad though it may be cloudy much of the time. Any showers look to be minimal if any at all. Sunday we will see some rain as a cold front approaches. Temperatures Saturday and Sunday will be back in the 50s. Weather conditions finally improve with some sunshine back on Monday.
