Winter Weather Advisories Posted Overnight Into Sunday Morning

3 to 4 Inches of Snow In Most Places

We have Winter Weather Advisories posted for much of Eastern Pennsylvania to South Coastal New England for a widespread 3 to 4 inch snow fall. Inland areas just outside the advisory area tonight will probably see some low level Winter Weather Advisories posted later today. Snow is on the way as low pressure and an arctic boundary move to the east and a wave develops on the arctic front Saturday night just east of the Delmarva Peninsula and then it slides to the east northeast.

Overnight models were a little more bullish and that has generally been the trend of the last couple of days. We don’t expect much to happen today. Clouds will be on the increase and there might be a little precipitation developing in parts of the area later this afternoon and early evening. with high temperatures reaching the upper 30s to lower 40s.

The polar boundary pushes southward and during this evening between 7pm and 10pm look for snow to break out. It might start as rain in Coastal and Southern New Jersey as well as parts of Long Island but as the stronger dynamics begin to take hold over the region tonight it will go over to snow. The steadiest and the accumulating snow will generally fall between midnight and 8am Sunday.

The Weather Prediction Center has increased the probability of at least 2 inches as well as the probability for at least 4 inches for much of the area. In general I think we will see a 3 to 4 inch snowfall. The exceptions will be Northwest New Jersey, the Hudson Valley, and inland Connecticut north of I-95 where amounts will be more in the 1 to 3 inch range. There will also likely be a jackpot zone in some areas of New Jersey as well as possibly on Long Island as these types of systems can leave surprises.

While it is snowing tonight, temperatures will fall into the upper 20s in most places allowing for accumulations on all surfaces. Sunday morning between 7am and 10am the snow will end from west to east leaving us with a windy and cold Sunday afternoon with leftover clouds, gusty winds and highs in the upper 20s and lower 30s at best before dropping into the teens Monday morning. Monday will be a cold and sunny day with high temperatures just back to the upper 20s and lower 30s. We will be having a special JOE & JOE WEATHER SHOW PODCAST tonight at 7pm on Youtube to update this weather system along with a check of radars, satellite loops, weather models and more so do make it a point to join us.
