Winter Weather Advisories Inland Snow Forecast Unchanged

We start the day waiting for the snow and/or rain to arrive as clouds roll in. The satellite loop and the regional radar loop don’t exactly inspire at the moment. The frontal boundary is shifting eastward and much of the precipitation that was on there yesterday has weakened. Frankly it looks like a summer cold front first thing in the morning where there isn’t much left from overnight other than a few showers. I would expect this to fire up some later today but it is decidedly underwhelming at this stage of the game.

Joe's Final Call Snow Forecast Tuesday 01292019

That was the final call map yesterday. This is the same map. I’m making no changes at all. Some of you observed that my map is different from the Weather Service forecast maps. That’s because it is. It is lower by at least 50% in most areas. At least someone is actually looking at it and after 4 plus years of doing this, it is a start.

EASTERN SATELLITE

REGIONAL RADAR

Don’t expect the local radars to show much of anything until late morning or early afternoon when they should start to fire up a bit heading into the evening commute. Coastal areas of New Jersey and Long Island might not see much of anything until this evening.

LOCAL RADAR PHILADELPHIA

Snow will end in Pennsylvania between 7 and 9pm and to the east in Long Island and Connecticut by about midnight. Everyone else ends somewhere in between. Temperatures are going to fall rather quickly after the front passes into the teens and low 20s so there will likely be some icing developing overnight. Exercise caution.

The bitter cold air arrives later Wednesday and ahead of it midday to mid afternoon be on the look out for a line of snow showers or a heavier snow squall. It will snow for 15 minutes. It might snow hard for 5 minutes. For some of you it will be the most snow you have seen all winter. Then temperatures head down to single digits to below zero Thursday morning. Strong winds will put wind chills down to -10 to -20.

Thursday will be frigid with highs just back into the teens before we head down to the single digits again for Friday morning. During Friday as warm air comes back there could be a period of snow in the afternoon and evening and it might mean a coating to an inch or two for some areas. We will take a closer look at this after this system plays out this evening. The warm up continues over the weekend.

MANY THANKS TO TROPICAL TIDBITS FOR THE USE OF MAPS
