Winter Weather Advisories Inland New Jersey Pennsylvania Hudson Valley Connecticut

Winter Weather Advisories Inland New Jersey Pennsylvania Hudson Valley Connecticut

Winter Weather Advisories are posted today for a period of snow sleet and freezing rain except for the coastal areas from New Jersey and Long Island where we could see some snow briefly at the start but temperatures will then go above freezing relatively quickly. Inland areas are starting the day colder so the temperature rise above 32 is going to take awhile but eventually it should get to everyone.

Snow accumulation will be minimal, around a coating to an inch or so. In Connecticut it could be a little higher due to a colder atmosphere lasting a bit longer into the afternoon. Ice accretion will be on the order of .05 inch or less with some odd spots perhaps getting up to .10 inches. This sort of system can be deceptive since the light nature of the precipitation might make you think it isn’t that bad out. Exercise caution when travelling today as the areas under an advisory will likely see a light glazing of ice on cold surfaces.

WEATHER RADAR

Once this weather system plays through precipitation will end late this afternoon and evening. Temperatures today will rise through the 30s and into the 40s along the coast but it will take longer for the warmer air to move inland. High temperatures in these areas may not be reached until sometime this evening.

Some leftover light rain could linger in spots but overall weather conditions should improve overnight. We will see a break develop Wednesday with some drier air coming in ahead of another weather system for Thursday and Friday. Wednesday should be on the order of mostly cloudy to partly sunny. Since there is no cold air around, high temperatures Wednesday should make a run for the  upper 40s to mid 50s in most places.

Thursday and Friday we will be dealing with another warm front that is going to struggle to move northward so depending on which side of the front you are on, your temperatures will be either warmer or colder. Right now we think the boundary will set up across Central New Jersey and Central Pennsylvania so if you are south of that line, it will at least be in the 50s but to the north of that it will be just in the 40s. We will also have some rain or showers to contend with at some point Thursday and again Friday.
