Winter Weather Advisories Freezing Rain Ends Midday

Winter Weather Advisories continue this morning and much of the area is seeing freezing rain. Temperatures are hovering near the freezing mark. Some areas like Long Island for example are seeing temperatures above 32 near the south shore and below toward the north. Around NYC temperatures are in the 32-34 degree zone but just inland from there in Northern New Jersey and in the Hudson Valley we are seeing temperatures in the upper 20s to around 30 and icing continues. Advisories cover much of Pennsylvania, the northern half of NJ along and northwest of the NJ turnpike, the Hudson Valley south of Route 84 and the same for Connecticut. Winter Storm Warnings are up from the Catskills east to Northern Connecticut to Southeast New England.

The good news this morning is that the back edge of a  of this is moving across Pennsylvania as low pressure heads to Southwestern NY. Warm air will probably not make it much further north than it already is so if you are still below freezing, it is likely that you probably stay that way until the precipitation ends.

All of this will come to an end from west to east between 10am and 1pm as the low redevelops near Nantucket and heads to the east northeast. Look for leftover clouds this afternoon with temperatures in the low to mid 30s. Then it turns colder tonight under clear skies with lows in the teens to low 20s. Saturday will be cold but with sunshine. Highs in the low to mid 30s. Sunday we are going to see a cold front and upper trough so ahead of it sun and arriving clouds. Highs will be in the low to middle 40s. A rain shower is possible when the front goes by late in the afternoon and a snow shower is possible (or even a brief snow squall) in the evening as it turns sharply colder. Next week begins dry and cold.
