Wind Advisory Tonight Northeast PA, Northern NJ, NYC, Long Island,

Hudson Valley, New England

Today was the last warm day we will see for awhile at least. It looks like we may go all of next week with below average temperatures (except for Friday). After a nice warm afternoon we are seeing the pressure gradient tighten over the Northeast as a storm strengthens in Eastern Canada and High Pressure builds in from the northwest.

Wind Advisories are posted from Northeastern Pennsylvania, Northern New Jersey, NYC, Long Island, Hudson Valley, and much of New England. Winds will average 20 to 30 mph in the advisory area with gusts over 40 mph at times. South and west of the advisory zone it will be breezy over night at 15 to 20 mph with occasional gusts over 30 mph.

After this morning’s cold front passed it cleared out nicely and now skies on the satellite are mainly clear. Radar isn’t picking up any showers except well north into upstate NY. We don’t expect any precipitation tonight through Monday.

Saturday we will see sunshine but it will be about 20 degrees cooler than today. That only takes us back to normal with temperatures in the upper 40s to mid 50s across the area. The temperature change however will be noticeable.

Sunday may actually be a shade warmer as another weak cold front moves through. There won’t be any weather with it however. We should enjoy sunshine with some passing clouds. Most highs will be in the 50s however we have a re-enforcement of colder air arriving for Monday. In spite of sunshine, temperatures Monday will only reach the upper 30s and lower 40s in most places.

Attention this weekend will be on a major snow storm in the Central Rockies and the Western Plains where the snow will be measured in feet. This storm will head east next week however it will run into a strong northwest flow in the upper atmosphere just offshore. This should cause that storm to weaken before it gets here. I’m forecasting cloudy skies for Tuesday but not forecasting any precipitation.

If we wind up in clouds all day long Tuesday temperatures will likely stay in the raw 40s all day. Another storm from the Rockies will head east Wednesday and Thursday. This one will hold together and get some juice from an upper trough dropping southeast from Canada. This could bring the first area wide rain that we have seen in nearly 2 weeks! It looks like timing wise rain arrives Wednesday night and lasts into Thursday night before weather conditions improve next Friday. Next Saturday spring arrives so this is the last weekend of the winter season! It is also the beginning of Daylight Saving Time on Sunday so remember to push the clocks ahead one hour.
