Weekend Tranquil While Catastrophic Hurricane Patricia Bears Down On Puerto Vallarta Mexico

While Puerto Vallarta Mexico gets ready to experience catastrophic Hurricane Patricia with 200 mph winds, we here have by severe contrast, a quiet weekend ahead. It will be cold tonight under clear skies and diminishing winds. Temperatures away from urban areas will drop below freezing so there will be scattered frosts around but since we already had a killing freeze last weekend, it really isn’t big news.

Saturday looks great with sunshine. Most highs will be in the mid 50s to near 60. Sunshine will perhaps give way to some high clouds later in the afternoon as a cold front begins its approach.
That front might produce a few isolated showers Saturday night into Sunday morning but as the precipitation map shows below, the amount of precipitation is at best minimal.

sunday

Sunday highs will probably be in the low to mid 60s immediately behind the front but another chilly air mass builds in for Monday and Tuesday and both days will be dry with sunshine but highs will only be in the 50s at best and nights will be cold with lows in the 20s to lower 30s inland and mostly 30s to near 40 warmer urban areas.

Hurricane Patricia moisture and perhaps whatever is left of the core circulation will emerge into the Western Gulf of Mexico later Saturday and it could become a tropical storm again once it gets there. The tropical moisture feed from this hurricane is impressive and there will be flooding rains produced in parts of Texas and Louisiana. That moisture should get involved with a non tropical system and cold front and it should bring some decent rains here beginning later Wednesday of next week and continuing into Thursday.
