Week Ahead Weather Looking Good Shower Thunderstorm Chance Wednesday
Looking to the week ahead and the last weekend of August, it looks very good overall with the only threat day for a shower or thunderstorm on Wednesday as a the first of two cold fronts will move through. The dry air mass and the fresh northeast wind will continue into Tuesday. There are some patchy clouds around this evening but we get a re-enforcement of dry air tonight and Monday so skies will go mostly clear tonight. There may be some lingering clouds in South Jersey and Southeastern Pennsylvania but here too clouds should break apart. Overnight lows will be in the 50s with even a few 40s in some of the cool spots while warmer urban centers and coastal areas will bottom in the lower 60s.
Our satellite this evening is showing some patchy clouds around. They are mostly fair weather clouds. There are a few light showers out to the east in the ocean but they seem to be drying up as they had westward. Skies are clear across Northern New England and this dry air will be advancing southward tonight and Monday.
SATELLITE
REGIONAL RADAR
Radar is showing a few light scattered showers offshore and backing westward. Most of these showers are either light or they come into all the dry air we have and the rain evaporates before it reaches the ground. These showers will tend to disappear after sunset. Nothing is showing up on the radars inland.
LOCAL RADAR NEW YORK CITY
LOCAL RADAR PHILADELPHIA
Monday is going to be a fine day with lots of sunshine everywhere. In South Jersey down to Delaware where there will be some lingering clouds, we will see sunshine gradually rip those clouds apart. It will be another day with highs just in the low to mid 70s in most places.
Tuesday we start the process of turning more humid and eventually warmer but we will still hang on to low humidity and some sunshine through some high clouds. Highs will be in the 70s. Then Wednesday will be warmer and more humid with some sunshine. We have a cold front arriving late in the day. It is not going to be particularly strong nor we will be deep in tropical air so I’m not expecting any kind of severe weather at this point. Just a few showers or a thunderstorm chance is forecast for late Wednesday into Wednesday night.
Thursday brings the next high but the air behind this cold front is not cooler. It actually will be warmer than what we have now. It will be okay humidity wise with sunshine for Thursday and some sun and clouds for Friday with highs both days in the low to mid 80s. Friday brings the next cold front late in the day but I don’t think there will be much with it. I’m not going to include the chance for a shower at this time.
The Labor Day holiday weekend is shaping up to be a good one. With no major changes in the upper air pattern we continue to see cold fronts arriving every three or four days followed by a dry air mass. This is the course for the Labor Day weekend as another nice dry high builds into the Eastern states. Right now it appears that Saturday and Sunday will be nice and sunny and we might be able to hold on to this high into Monday, Labor Day. Highs will be in the 70s and nighttime lows will be in the 50s to lower 60s. It will be a nice way to end August and begin the month of September.
