Week Ahead Outlook More Humid Days Severe Weather Risk Thursday Very Warm Weekend
We are seeing a better day of weather today but there are issues with blow off high clouds that are streaming eastward across the Northeast and Northern Mid Atlantic states today. This will mean partly sunny skies for today. However these are just high clouds and there is no shower or thunderstorm activity to worry about. Temperatures today will be mostly in the 70s as we reflexing see temperatures come back to normal. It is a seasonable start to June which is the beginning of meteorological summer (three warmest months).

Wednesday we will be under the influence of a ridge along and off the East Coast. The ridge is not particularly strong so while temperatures will edge a little higher we will have to deal with a south wind. Highs inland will reach the upper 70s to lower 80s and it will be mostly 70s along the coast with 60s at the shore. Moisture from an approaching upper trough to the west will trigger some scattered thunderstorms well inland. Skies should be mostly cloudy to partly sunny.
The weather highlight this week is Thursday when we have severe weather risk. The Storm Prediction Center has already indicated a marginal to slight risk from Virginia to Southeastern New York including most of New Jersey and Eastern and Southern Pennsylvania, Maryland and Delaware. A cold front will trigger off thunderstorms late in the day. We might also see some scattered showers and thunderstorms early Thursday morning as a warm front pushes northward. It will be a sticky day with higher humidity and highs will be in the 70s to some lower 80s inland.
Friday sees a day of partly sunny skies as the front is offshore but the upper trough will still be lagging behind in the Northeast so we will mention the chance for a couple of scattered showers for now and then come back to this later in the week and see if the shower chance. Highs will be in the 70s.
Over the weekend and next week we will be going into a very warm to hot and humid pattern. A strong ridge will be building into the Northeastern US. Temperatures will start moving higher on Saturday as highs reach the low and middle 80s with sunshine. Humidity gets thrown into the mix beginning Sunday and it becomes very humid during next week. Temperatures will reach the mid to upper 80s Sunday with sunshine. With a strong ridge centered in the Northeast it minimizes the chances for thunderstorms into next week. At some point we will start to see highs reaching 90 degrees. It could happen as early as Sunday over inland areas and we could see 90 degree highs daily through much of next week. Wind direction and the amount of sun will be key. Also the high is strong in the Northeast aloft and unless we see a shallow back door cold front head our way, we have a very warm weather stretch coming up.
