Week Ahead Dry Chilly Start Rain Wind Wednesday,

Wind Colder Thursday Into Friday

The work week ahead is neatly divided up with a dry first two days, a wet and windy middle and a dry colder last 2 days. Let’s start with today as last night’s cold front is now well offshore. The satellite loop shows some instability clouds to the northwest of the coast so we will likely see sunshine and some patchy clouds especially inland. It will be breezy at least for a while today and highs will  be in the upper 40s to lower 50s which is average for this time of year. Radars are nice and quiet today and we don’t expect any issues there.

A clear cold night lies ahead for areas from Eastern Pennsylvania to Southern New England with 20s inland and lower 30s near the coast. Tuesday looks to be a sunny but chilly day as high pressure sits overhead. Highs Tuesday will be in the 40s. Perhaps Southern New Jersey could see highs go above 50.

The high moves out offshore Tuesday night and Wednesday and it strengthens a bit. In the meantime a strong developing storm from the Southern Plains heads toward the Great Lakes and then into Eastern Canada, strengthening into a major storm when it gets there. A solid upper trough is swinging east causing the pressure gradient to tighten up in the Northeast and Middle Atlantic states.

Wednesday looks to be a day of increasing clouds and increasing wind as the day wears on. It looks like showers come through around midday and again late afternoon and evening from west to east with perhaps a short break in between. A rumble or two of thunder would not surprise me either.

Look for south to southwest winds Wednesday afternoon and evening gusting perhaps over 40 mph especially across Long Island and Southern and Southeastern New England. Once the front passes weather conditions improve though there is a quick shot of colder air that comes in Thursday. We will see sunshine and a gusty wind but highs Thursday will only be in the lower 40s at best. Friday we finish the week with sunshine and less wind with highs in the low to mid 40s. An early guess on the weekend sees another approaching front with showers for Saturday followed by a dry and colder Sunday.
