Week Ahead Brings Chances To Break Above Freezing

& Not Much Precipitation

Satellite loops this morning show a well defined coastal storm well to the east of the North Carolina coast. That storm is moving eastward rather than northward. Other than throwing back a little snow in Southeastern New England, its impact is minimal and indirect. We have lots of clouds around today along with some gusty winds especially along the coast. However we have no snow in the forecast. High temperatures today will reach the low and middle 20s in most places.

WEATHER RADAR

We do see weather condition moderating this week as far as the cold is concern but we will still be seeing temperatures running 5 to 10 degrees below average for the week ahead but that at least is better than running 20 degrees or more below average. The ocean storm pulls away tonight and skies should clear. Monday morning lows will be in the single digits inland and low to mid teens coast.

Monday, the day the glorified rodent is used to predict weather for the next 6 weeks, We will see our first attempt at getting over the freezing mark in 10 days. We will see some sunshine. Highs will reach the lower 30s in many locations. Tuesday brings another chance at getting above the freezing mark with some sunshine in the forecast and highs again reaching the lower 30s.

Weather systems are going to be relatively weak going forward thanks to a split flow in the jet stream The northern stream energy does not get together with southern stream energy as the two flows are not timed out for phasing to occur. Separate streams keep systems week. One such system approaches Wednesday as weak low pressure that passes to the south across the Mid Atlantic states with little development.

A second system will approach in the northwest flow late this week and here too we have what appears to be a weak system that will head southeast eastward from the Great Lakes and redevelop offshore. In either case, precipitation from either system looks to be minimal. We will throw in the chance for a little snow Tuesday night into early Wednesday as one system goes by. The same holds for later Friday into Friday evening.

A genuine warm up however is not in the cards and in fact, after a brief flirtation with the freezing mark, we head back into the igloo. Wednesday look for early clouds and leftover flurries giving way to some sun with highs mostly in the upper 20s to some lower 30s. Then we are back to highs in the 20s for Thursday and Friday. We will throw in the chance for some snow later Friday afternoon into Friday night. These are nickel & dime events and no major storms are on the horizon for the next 10 days.
