Weak Weather System Brings A Cold Rain Overnight Into Early Wednesday
Another chilly day lies ahead but we are at least seeing winds easing some today. We still have low pressure spinning away in Atlantic Canada and only slowly inching eastward. This is keeping things dry and chilly in the Northeast and Mid Atlantic states. We do have moisture to the west and we expect to see sunshine today give way to increasing clouds this afternoon. Once again with a chilly northwest flow, high temperatures today will be mostly in the mid to upper 40s. No precipitation is forecast during the dayside.

The blocking pattern in the North Atlantic is forcing weather systems to be suppressed and take the southern route across the US. Low pressure in Missouri is forced eastward and, due to the storm in Atlantic Canada still sitting out there to the northeast, there is very little if any room for this low to develop or intensify. In fact, just the opposite will happen as the low weakens as it moves eastward and so will the precipitation shield.
There will be some rain coming in tonight into Wednesday morning but the northern flank cuts off in Northern New Jersey, New York City, and Western Long Island. We expect any rain to fall between 10pm Tuesday and 4am Wednesday. It will be light as we are talking about a tenth of an inch or less north, and maybe a quarter of an inch South Jersey and points south. This all comes to an end before daybreak. On the extreme northern flank, a few snow flakes or ice pellets might mix in briefly.
Once the low passes offshore, weather conditions will improve from west to east with leftover clouds giving way to some sunshine. It will be chilly behind the low with high temperatures again mostly in the 40s. Thursday looks to be dry and sunny with highs in the upper 40s to a few lower 50s as temperatures start to moderate slightly. Another low is forecast to move eastward Friday night into Saturday morning and here too we see another system that weakens as it approaches. It is conceivable that the system completely falls apart and that we stay dry with moderating temperatures and some sunshine through the weekend.
