Waves of Rain Today Tonight Warm Tuesday Before Snow Wednesday Morning

Overnight rains that developed along the coast moved right through in time for the morning commute. There is a gap between this first area and the second one that is sweeping in from the west so this should give us a little dry time in between. The next round will take us through the evening commute and tonight. All of this is do to a southerly flow ahead of a cold front that will  move through here Tuesday evening.

Rains are all over the place on the regional and local radars. The coastal rains have given that zone a bit of head start as far as rainfall totals are concerned. With round two on the way (unless you are well inland where it will be round one) rainfall totals will reach 1 to 1.5 inches in most places Temperatures are on the rise and most highs will be in the 50s today which is a nice change from the rather cold weekend.

Rain will be here for the evening commute and tonight and then it will end as we head into Tuesday. We will be waiting for a cold front to pass. There isn’t going to be much ahead of it other than passing showers but it will be very warm with highs Tuesday reaching the upper 50s to lower 60s.

The cold front moves through, stalls, and we get one more wave of low pressure along it as colder air comes in Tuesday night. This means snow for most of us in about a 6 hour time frame from 4am Wednesday to 10 or 11am . During this time we are looking at a quarter to a half inch of liquid to fall which if it were all snow would be a 2 to 4 or 3 to 6 inch snowfall but we are going to cut that in half given the tenuous nature of the temperatures and a little lost time from the warmth of the day before.

We think a 1 to 3 inch snow fall is a fair forecast at this point and there is no need to change that going forward. The Weather Prediction Center map above is the forecast probability of at least 2 inches with the higher chances further inland.

Rain Warmer Air Before Front Moves Through Temperatures Fall Snow Likely Wednesday Morning

Cold air will take over for Wednesday and Thursday and we will be in the teens and lower 20s Thursday morning. The pattern is active and cold air will move right out with another storm coming up from the south and rain likely for the weekend the way it looks at the moment.
