Warmest Day of the Week And Month Highs Low to Mid 80s.

Showers Thunderstorms Thursday

We have arrived at the warmest day of the week and of the month of April. The one issue that caps the upside today is cloud cover and we can see it on the satellite picture view today. Mostly high clouds are the issue but there will be enough sunshine coupled with a west wind to take highs up into the low and middle 80s. Even coastal areas could reach the 70s to near 80 before any sea breeze develops.

There is a frontal boundary setting up across upstate NY and Central New England and we are seeing showers north of that boundary today. Gradually that frontal boundary will sink southward tonight and that could trigger a shower or thunderstorm overnight. Most lows tonight will be in the warm low to mid 50s.

Thursday offers an interesting dilemma. That weather front from the north drops literally overhead on Thursday cutting our forecast area in half. To the north of the frontal boundary highs will be in the upper 60s and lower 70s. To the south of the frontal boundary highs will reach into the 80s.

Along that frontal boundary we will likely see clouds and the risk for showers or a thunderstorm on Thursday. The Nam model shows a wave on that front to the west moving east and that wave will strengthen when it reaches New England Thursday night.

We will also have to look at the prospects for severe weather late Thursday as the low moves eastward. The Storm Prediction Center has some severe weather risk reaching across Pennsylvania and parts of Upstate NY. I believe that we could see the marginal risk pushed further east in later forecasts but I don’t anticipate the slight risk area being pushed into our area.

After the cold front passes the wind machine goes on again during Friday with a strengthening low to the northeast and high pressure to the west. The gradient should be tight enough to reach wind advisory criteria later Friday and Friday night into early Saturday and that means gusts to over 40 mph. Friday should see early clouds give way to sunshine with highs in the upper 60s and lower 70s. The weekend looks good. The wind should ease Saturday but it will be in the cool side with highs just reaching into the 60s. By Sunday we could see sunshine taking highs back into the 70s.
