Warm Saturday Some Snow Sunday But Not Much Very Cold Into Tuesday

Today finishes a three day winning streak of nice weather and temperatures in the 50s and even some 60s. There are clouds rolling ni from the west and that will limit the sunshine today. There are a couple of showers ahead of the front on the radar but that area has been weakening as it moves east. Enjoy the warm temperatures because once the front passes temperatures will make their move lower.

Once the front passes winds will turn to the north and north northeast. Colder air will come start to drain southward across Upstate NY and New England and down through the Mid Atlantic states. Temperatures by morning will settle in the 20s to around 30 degrees. During the day tomorrow, depending of whether it is snowing and with what kind of intensity, temperatures will likely trend into the 20s.

I didn’t notice any important changes in weather models overnight. Some are a little more robust than others. All have relatively similar ideas it is a matter of how much precipitation they generate and their own views of what the radar looks like. I’s staying with my original idea of a coating to a few inches coast and east from New Jersey east of the Garden State Parkway to Long Island, Southern Connecticut and Southeast New England with less to the north west.

I will make a final call later today for Sunday. Snow will get underway during the early morning hours to the southwest and then gradually spread northeast from New Jersey to Connecticut by daybreak. It should start to taper off from northwest to southeast though the pace of the tapering off varies from model to model. From there it turns very cold as skies clear Sunday night with lows in the teens to near 10 or less in cold spots inland. Monday will be sunny but very cold with highs just in the 20s and then back down to the teens and single digits Tuesday morning. Then the bounce back begins with sunshine taking highs back into the 30s.

Wednesday the rebound continues with sunshine taking highs into the 40s before a storm to the west approaches on Thursday. This will be a strong system taking a track to our west. Increasing south winds on Thursday will be an issue at the coast and the gradient tightens further Thursday night as the front nears. Heavy rain and thunderstorms will move east and we will get into that from west to east during Thursday afternoon and continuing into Friday morning. It will turn windy and colder behind the system as the front moves offshore on Friday. Next weekend looks dry and chilly but not overly cold. After today it looks like we may be done with snow threats as long as the new pattern lasts which will be a couple of weeks.
