Warm Humid Weather Through the Weekend

Chance For A Thunderstorm Late Sunday

We are almost at the weekend and this Friday, getaway day should be a nice day overall with no issues. Slightly drier air is draining southward and if you are in Northern New Jersey and points north and east into New York State and New England, you may notice a slight in humidity levels today and we do mean slight. It will also be mostly short lived. Onshore winds will hold highs today in the 80s, 70s to near 80 at the beaches. Skies will be partly to mostly sunny for most of not all of the day. Areas from South Jersey southward have the small chance for a pop up thunderstorm but other than that we are in quiet mode.

Over the weekend a cold front will be approaching from the northwest. Most of the energy with this weather front will play out in New England where there might be some showers and thunderstorms late Sunday into Sunday night. This is really the only weather player that will be impacting weather over the next several days. It will also serve as a blocker for what should be major Hurricane Erin, which is forecast to pass east of the Bahamas and well east of the Carolinas as it turns east northeast and out to sea late this week.

The hurricane in that position creates a bit of a traffic jam in the movement of systems from west to east. Next week could very well turn out to be dry for the coastal plain from New England to the Mid Atlantic, though there is one disturbance that may bring showers and a few storms well inland in Pennsylvania Tuesday into Wednesday.

Saturday will be day of partly to mostly sunny skies, winds that will be mostly east and southeast, and no showers or thunderstorms in the forecast. Afternoon highs will be generally in the low to middle 80s. Temperatures at the beaches will be in the mid to upper 70s thanks to the onshore wind. Sunday will be sunny for much of the day. We will throw in the chance that there could be a late day scattered shower or thunderstorm but I think that most of you probably won’t see one. Highs Sunday will be in the upper 80s to some lower 90s ahead of the front.

A cooler flow of air takes over for the first half of next week and that will come with some lower humidity and sunshine. Temperatures Monday into Wednesday will average probably 5 or more degrees below seasonal averages as high pressure builds across Eastern Canada and New England. Most daily highs at least through Wednesday will be in the upper 70s to around or just over 80 and nights will be in the cooler 50s and 60s. Erin heads out to sea mid and late week and we could see the beaches get roughed up by high surf, rip tides, and some coastal flooding at high tide thanks to the hurricane combining with the new moon phase.
