WEATHER IN 5 PODCAST SUNDAY SEPTEMBER 27, 2020

SUNDAY MORNING  9/27/2020 JOE & JOE WEATHER SHOW PODCAST

When it doesn’t rain for two weeks and a few days, you might see the dry period end in a significant way and that looks to be the case this time around. A cold front, a series of waves and a deep upper trough will likely bring a solid soaking rain to the Northeast and Middle Atlantic states. This is of particular importance to New England which is abnormally dry. In fact some areas are in severe drought!

We still have another two days to go before we get into the wetter pattern. The seeds for that rain actually have already sprouted here as we have warm and humid conditions for today and  Monday. We start the day with low clouds and patchy fog. It burns off to some sunshine. Temperatures both today and Monday will top out in the 70s and lows tonight will be in the 60s. Nothing much is happening on the radars today though there might be a scattered shower or two running around on Monday.

Let’s move on to Tuesday which is when the wet weather earnestly gets underway. The upper pattern is going from one where we had a northwest flow in the upper atmosphere to a southerly flow along the East Coast. Throw in a few short waves swinging around that trough and we have the ingredients for a stretch of wet weather that lasts for a few days.

It is a pattern with strong highs, deep troughs, and intense lows. We will see showers become more numerous on Tuesday and they will likely continue in waves through Wednesday. It will be a matter of when the last low passes and moves into New England and that looks to happen Wednesday late or even early Thursday.

In fact the upper trough will still be to our west so a case can be made for even more rain late week or into next weekend but we won’t go there yet. Rainfall amounts are significant in this stretch and we could see a stripe of 2 to 3 inches up and down the Eastern Seaboard.

The other change will be much cooler weather arrives on Wednesday and we could be in for a stretch of below normal temperatures that lasts for quite awhile. Starting Wednesday we should see highs mostly in the 60s and that continues for the rest of the week and into the weekend with nighttime lows in the 40s to lower 50s.
