Warm Day Ahead Showers Thunderstorms &

Severe Weather Risks Overnight Into Friday Morning

We have a weather front approaching today from the northwest and a warm front that is pushing northeastward into New England. This is going to set us up for warmer temperatures later today. A lead line of showers and storms on the radar is weakening as it heads eastward. There will be a second area of showers and thunderstorms that will develop tonight when the weather front is virtually overhead.

Some daytime heating should push temperatures into the upper 60s to mid 70s away from the ocean and that opens the door for the possibility of showers, thunderstorms & severe weather late today and tonight. The Storm Prediction Center has a marginal risk for severe storms into New Jersey & much Pennsylvania for isolated severe thunderstorms and a slight risk for South Central Pennsylvania into Central & Western Maryland south into much of Virginia.

WEATHER RADAR

Tonight we will see some showers and thunderstorms develop though they will not be widespread and some areas in the risk zones may not see much. The highest chances will be from Philadelphia to New York City south and southwest to Southern Pennsylvania and Maryland. The front will slowly sag southward overnight into Friday morning and eventually push far enough south to allow for some improvement during Friday.

The improvement Friday will bring some sunshine but that improvement will be short lived as the cold front stalls to the south and starts to back up as a warm front Saturday. At least Friday will be okay for the most part. Some afternoon sunshine will bring highs back into the 60s in most places though it will be cooler along south and east facing shorelines.

The weekend is going to have issues as a warm front comes up from the South. Saturday looks to be a gloom and doom type of day with lots of clouds and areas of rain. Highs will just be in the 50s in most places, ranging from near 50 around NYC and points north and east to low 60s in Southern New Jersey. Sunday we are going to see warmer temperatures again as the warm front goes by to the north but a cold front coming from the west will bring showers and maybe a thunderstorm or two later in the day int Sunday night.
