Warm 80s Today Before Next High Builds Into the East Over the Weekend

Here we are at the end of another week and we have a very warm day ahead of US. There is a cold front dropping southward from upstate New York and you can see on the satellite a strip of clouds representing an approaching cold front. Also you can see on the radar loop that there isn’t any precipitation with the front nor will there be when it passes later today. West and northwest winds ahead of it plus ample sunshine will take highs today to the low and middle 80s even along coastal locations where the sea breeze will be effectively shut off from developing.

Once the front passes, another dome of high pressure will be building across Southeastern Canada and New England over the weekend. The air mass is cool enough to bring the first frosts and freezes across Upstate New York and Northern New England. Across Eastern Pennsylvania it will be a near average temperature weekend and cooler than what we are seeing today.

Also the position of the large high will keep rain out of the forecast at least through Monday. Onshore winds will once again be in place but the high is far enough south that it saves us from a moist easterly flow. That probably brings clouds and some areas of rain from Delmarva south to the North Carolina over the weekend but not anywhere close to us.

Most lows tonight will range from the 40s north of Route 84 in New York and Connecticut to 50s everywhere else and near 60 in the warmest of urban and coastal locations. Skies will be mainly clear tonight and Saturday will be mostly sunny. Highs will average in the lower 70s in most place. Then we head down to the 40s inland by Sunday morning and mostly 50s everywhere else.

Sunday looks no worse than partly sunny and it will once again be on the cool side. Temperatures along the coast will be in the 60s and inland highs will reach the lower 70s as the onshore flow continues. The high pressure cell does move to the east on Monday and we see temperatures moving higher Monday into Tuesday. We also see a cold front approaching Tuesday that might mean a chance for showers or a thunderstorm as the front nears. Enjoy your day and enjoy the last weekend of the summer season as Autumn arrives Monday.
