Very Hot Humid With Record Highs Next 2 Days

Severe Weather Risk Wednesday Break Comes Thursday

Yesterday we saw thunderstorms in the morning until early afternoon and that prevented temperatures from getting much out of the 80s. Today however there are no thunderstorms around to disrupt the daytime heating. As a result we have a very hot and very humid day with sunshine taking highs to the upper 90s to near or even over 100 degrees. Today’s records hover around in the middle 90s in most places so we expect to see numerous records broken across Eastern Pennsylvania to Southern New England as well as other areas across the Northeast and Northern Mid Atlantic.

SATELLITE WITH LIGHTNING STRIKES

WEATHER RADAR

Radars are void of any thunderstorm activity and an odd isolated thunderstorm could form but if that happens it will be short lived. Tonight will be a very warm and humid night with lows in the 70s to near 80 degrees. Tuesday will be a repeat performance of today with sunshine, hot and humid conditions. Record highs once again are in the mid 90s and we are forecasting highs in the upper 90s and lower 100s so more records will go by the wayside.

Wednesday we will see another hot humid day however we also have a back door frontal boundary that will be sinking southward as the day wears on . We will come off the peak temperatures of Monday and Tuesday however highs will still reach the middle to upper 90s. Along the coast we will see more of an ocean wind develop and that may hold temperatures down somewhat once the wind shifts to the east later in the day.

The frontal boundary will ease southward and likely set off thunderstorms during the late afternoon and evening. The Storm Prediction Center is indicating a marginal risk for isolated severe thunderstorms across much of Eastern Pennsylvania to New Jersey, the Hudson Valley and New England. Thunderstorms will likely diminish overnight into early Thursday.

Thursday we will see temperatures back into the 80s however the frontal boundary will remain stalled over the area so we will likely see another round of showers and thunderstorms develop later in the day and lasting into Thursday night. We would not be surprised to see some severe weather risk for a second day. An onshore flow will develop Friday into Saturday allowing the cooling trend to continue and there will be some shower and thunderstorm risk along the way especially Saturday.
