Very Cold Into Wednesday Wind Chills & Widespread Freezes Tuesday Morning

The cold front we have been advertising and waiting for has passed offshore along with the bulk of the rain showers. Now we move ahead to what will be a day of leftover cloud cover and an increasing northwest wind. This will begin the process of a downtrend in temperatures overall. Winds will be picking up from the northwest as well and we will also see perhaps some breaks of sunshine developing in a few places. Temperatures this morning are in the 40s and we will be staying in the 40s for the rest of the day.

Tonight is going to be the coldest night of the Autumn season so far. We are expecting to see wind pick up to 20 to 30 mph in gusts, skies becoming at least partially clear if not mostly clear. Temperatures by Tuesday morning are going to bottom in the 20s. Even the warmest urban locations will see temperatures hovering near 30 degrees or so. This is going to be a widespread freeze for everyone though many inland areas have already had their first freezes of the season.

The strong gusty northwest winds means that temperatures from coast to inland areas will be relatively uniform and in a tight 5 degree spread. The wind is going to knock off about 10 degrees or so in terms of how it feels right through the daytime Tuesday. There might also be some scattered snow showers around Tuesday as the upper trough moves through the Northeast and Mid Atlantic states. Tuesday highs will be just in the lower 40s on average and some places, temperatures may have a tough time piercing 40 degrees.

We are going to see temperatures start to moderate Tuesday night and Wednesday but not by very much. Overnight lows Wednesday morning will be in the upper 20s to mid 30s. Wednesday dayside will feature clouds and sunshine, a gusty wind, however temperatures should make it back to the upper 40s and lower 50s in most places. Bear in mind the wind will still be busy and low 50s is still below average for mid November.

We don’t see much changing Thursday and Friday other than the wind might start to ease somewhat by the end of the week. Both days will feature some sunshine with highs reaching the upper 40s and lower 50s. Right now as far as the weekend goes, Saturday looks to be dry and there is a little bit of a warm front that might produce a couple of showers overnight into Sunday morning but it doesn’t look like much. Temperatures should also trend a little higher over the weekend.
