Tropical Weather Appears Quiet
Disturbance Off African Coast Could Develop Next Week
Weather Pattern Unfavorable For East Coast Storms
Now that Hermine is finally done, we take a look across the tropics and see nothing at all to be concerned with. The Gulf of Mexico is quiet with an upper low spinning in there keeping conditions unfavorable. The East Coast is quiet of course with dry being left behind Hermine across the Southeast down to the Bahamas. The Carribbean shows a weak wave moving into the Northwest Caribbean but for now conditions are not favorable there.
About the only place where something could develop is in the Eastern Tropical Atlantic which is not yet visible in this satellite loop of the tropical Atlantic. Conditions appear to be favorable for development early next week as the wave begins to move across the Atlantic.
When we look at the upper air pattern in the Atlantic later next week, there appears that there is a weakness in the Atlantic ridge near 60 degrees west. Models have been very insistent on this though there is some variation between the models. The weakness is a bit less on the European which would carry it about 65 degrees west before the turn. But in the end if the westerlies are as far south as some models show, tropical systems up the east coast simply can’t happen.

My own view is that there will probably be another burst of activity later this month. The warm pattern in the east would suggest some activity into October as well. Nothing however in the immediate long range appears concerning.
