Tropical Storm Watch Carolinas Northeast Not At Risk

The latest satellite loops as well as the radar show a well organized low pressure area off the Southeast Coast of the US. This system could become a tropical storm at any time with just a slight increase in strength and organization. The National Hurricane Center has placed the South & North Carolina coast under a tropical storm watch.

storm free

Weather models remain clear on the idea that this system will straddle the Carolina coastline and then move northeast or east northeast from there. This means there is no direct threat from this system for our area. However as it moves away from the coast and strengthens, there will be issues with rough ocean seas and rip currents. Rain could possibly make it as far north as Southern New Jersey and Delaware however it would do so for only a short time on Tuesday. The rest of the area will see clouds. Winds could pick up somewhat along the coast since we will have a big high pressure cell to the northeast and a rather tight pressure gradient developing. Gales should be confined to the coastal waters on Tuesday and Tuesday night.

Other than some high clouds that are around we have a very good night ahead of clear skies. Monday looks like a nice day overall with sunshine though some high clouds will start to come into the picture as the day wears on. With the onshore flow some ocean moisture may start to get involved as well but there will be no other issues. Lows overnight will once again will be in the 50s to lower 60s and highs Tuesday will be mostly in the 70s.

REGIONAL RADAR

Tuesday we will probably see lots of clouds and an onshore wind from the east or northeast. Temperatures will be held down to the upper 60s and lower 70s. Clouds will be thicker as we go south and at this point any system tropical or otherwise will make its closest pass to our area. Again rain could reach Southern New Jersey for a short time.

Wednesday we should be partly to mostly sunny with highs in the 70s to near 80. The next cold front will approach on Thursday with higher humidity and the chance for late showers and thunderstorms. A shot of very cool dry air arrives for Friday with sunshine and highs in the upper 60s to lower 70s.

LABOR DAY WEEKEND OUTLOOK

Right now Saturday looks like a great day with sunshine and highs in the 70s to near 80. Sunday looks to be very warm with sunshine and highs into the 80s. Another cold front will arrive on Monday Labor Day and there could be the chance for some showers though it does not look like a wash out by any means.
