Tropical Flow Bringing Scattered Downpours This Afternoon High Humidity Heat Lie Ahead

A bit of surprise showed up today. A flow of tropical air around high pressure offshore is producing very humid conditions along with clouds and some breaks of sun in the mix. We are also seeing some narrow bands of showers and downpours showing up on the radars. Temperatures this afternoon will depend on whether you have sun breaking through. Those areas should see highs in the 80s but where clouds are around and where scattered downpours are occuring temperatures will be in the 70s.

Most of the scattered showers are occurring west of the coast from New Jersey south to Delaware. Areas to the northeast are not seeing much regarding scattered shower activity early this afternoon but since they are so close we can’t completely rule them out going into this evening.

WEATHER RADAR

Once we get through this evening the showers will disappear and we will have leftover clouds and some patchy fog. Most lows will be in the upper 60s inland and low to mid 70s in warmer urban location. Sunday will be partly sunny hot and humid with highs from the mid 80s along the coast to upper 80s and lower 90s inland.

The hottest weather of this stretch will be Monday into Wednesday. High pressure aloft will be sitting right over the Northern Mid Atlantic with the hottest temperatures right underneath the center of that high. This means we will have sunshine hot and humid conditions. There is a minimal chance for a pop up shower or thunderstorm.

Monday’s highs will reach 90 to 95 in most areas except right along the beaches. Tuesday will be a wash rinse repeat performance with highs reaching low and middle 90s. Again it will be cooler at the beaches and only a slight chance for an isolated pop up shower or thunderstorm.

Wednesday will be another hot humid day but an upper trough will be approaching and that could trigger off some late day thunderstorms. This is a bit of a change from the outlook a few days ago. Highs Wednesday will be in the low to middle 90s. This should be the last super hot day but it will remain very warm to hot behind the trough

Thursday’s highs will be in the upper 80s to around 90 and the humidity might be a shade lower behind this trough but it will go up again on Friday. A strong cold front is heading east and that will trigger off some strong late day thunderstorms. Highs Friday will be in the upper 80s to near 90 degrees.

The GFS is painting a lovely picture for the 4th of July holiday weekend as a drops another deep trough in the Eastern US much like the last 2 troughs we experienced. This would lead to low humidity and sunshine for the 3 day weekend however caution is advised since the other models are going in different directions. The European model last night dropped the trough into the Western Great Lakes and left it there. This would put us in a totally different scenario for the weekend. We will examine this issue in the coming day.
