Thunderstorms Exit Cool Monday Tuesday More Storms Late Wednesday

Parts of the area experienced strong thunderstorms and severe weather. Those storms are now exiting to the east as a strong cold front moves through. The jet stream pattern brings a new air mass from Canada for Monday and Tuesday and that means cool air to start the new week. Temperatures will average about 5 to 7 degrees below normal Monday and Tuesday. The difference this time around is that this is not with an onshore flow but with a big high dropping south east into the Middle Atlantic States Monday and Tuesday. We will clear out late tonight with most lows in the 50s.

Monday brings a sunny start and a gusty northwest wind. It will also bring a few fair weather clouds especially inland. Temperatures will struggle however with most highs just in the 60s with the warmest spots touching the 70 degree mark. The dry air and the gusty breeze will make it feel cool out there on Monday.

Monday night into Tuesday morning will be cool with most lows in the 40s. The warmer urban centers and coastal areas will bottom in the lower 50s. Tuesday will be nice and sunny with highs in the upper 60s and lower 70s.

The high will move offshore and a west southwest flow begins on Wednesday. We should see some sunshine taking temperatures in the upper 70s and lower 80s by Wednesday afternoon. Wednesday night a cold front approaches with the chance for showers and thunderstorms overnight into Thursday. I think the thunderstorms stay mostly away until Wednesday evening at the earliest with severe weather possible across the Middle Atlantic States.

The front will stall somewhere to the south of us but the question is where. If enough high pressure builds south out of Canada it could push the frontal action of showers and thunderstorms further south and keep us mostly dry for late week and into the start of next weekend. However models often times like to overdue the push south and that would lead to a more active stormy outcome here if the frontal boundary lies closer to us and further north. We will evaluate the situation over the next several days. In the meantime it is dry and cool for the start of the new week.
