Third Major Storm Develops Wednesday Offshore

We are about to see the third major storm in the last 6 days develop right in our back yard. It seems since the first one late last week that impacted our area with heavy snows in some (but not all) areas, the development zone has shifted to the right and further offshore. We missed out on heavy snows from the second one on Sunday but Maine and New Hampshire and parts of Massachusetts did not. This third one looks to be further to the east though it seems that Maine New Hampshire and possibly Northeaster Massachusetts are in line for this one. The satellite loop shows  the swirling animal storm out in the ocean southeast of New Foundland  while the next one is lining up as one disturbance tonight is dropping southeast from the Great Lakes while a system in the southern part of the jet stream pushes eastward.

REGIONAL RADAR

The regional radar is beginning to show the leading edge of rain moving into Northwestern North Carolina and Southern Virginia. Soon we will see some snow from the Great Lakes system move into Western New York. Expect nothing more than a few passing clouds overnight here. Then Wednesday we will see clouds and we will watch two areas of precipitation. One passes to the southeast and the other to the northwest. The energy from the two systems won’t consolidate until the low passes south of Cape Cod tomorrow evening. Then the storm explodes in the Gulf of Maine Wednesday night and Thursday. I expect nothing more than a few passing showers Wednesday with highs in the 40s to near 50 in southern areas.

third major storm

Thursday will be a windy and cold day with highs in the 30s with some sunshine. WInds will be strong and gusty again on the order of 20 to 30 mph with gusts in the 40s but I do not expect the winds to be as fierce as they were on Monday. Friday looks dry and cold with highs in the 30s. Then we warm up over the weekend with highs reaching 50 in some places Saturday and near 60 on Sunday.

third major storm

Much of next week will be mild with the next chance of rain late Tuesday but that does not look impressive. I still believe that the pattern will flip back to favor snow one more time after next week and into the first 2 weeks of March.
