The Dew Point Whoosh Across Northeast & Mid Atlantic Weekend Outlook
Last night’s severe weather put on quite a show across Eastern Pennsylvania and Central New Jersey which included possible tornadoes. The damage is being inspected today to confirm whether it was tornadoes or straight line wind damage. Areas to the north escaped the brunt of the severe weather. Behind the cold front was nice dry air and we are feeling that across the area today from Eastern Pennsylvania to Southern New England with rapidly falling dew points and humidity and plenty of sunshine. Other than some patchy clouds mostly inland it is a nice finish to the week as temperatures this afternoon reach into the 80s.

Radars aren’t showing very much today and the only showers should be well north in Upstate NY and New England due to the cold unstable air aloft there. Radars should be silent tonight into early Sunday and we are shaping up for a nice weekend overall.
Tonight is going to be a nice cool night with a northwest breeze and clear skies. By morning most lows will be in the upper 50s to near 60 in warmer urban locations and along the coast and upper 40s and lower 50s inland. Some places could come close to record lows for the date.
Saturday is going to be a good looking day and a great send off to a very wet July. Look for blue skies and lots of sunshine. Highs will be in the delightful 70s to near 80 with very low humidity. Saturday night should be nice clear and comfortable with lows in the upper 50s and lower 60s.
Sunday we will see some sunshine and yes there is a cold front approaching. However the humidity will not have much time to rise and while it comes up a bit, it will still be comfortable. Highs will be in the upper 70s to near 80. Late in the day or Sunday evening the front could trigger off a scattered shower or thunderstorm but I don’t expect much nor am I expecting severe weather.
Next week offers some forecast challenges. Sunday’s cold front stalls offshore. Initially at least the front should be far enough offshore so that Monday and Tuesday will be dry. However the upper trough coming into the East lags behind rather than progressing eastward. A ridge eventually builds off the East Coast creating a southerly flow.
There is enough of a push east so that Monday and probably Tuesday will be dry with another low humidity air mass building in keeping rain offshore and south. Eventually with that building high offshore, that rain gets in here later next week . Until then we will go with some sunshine Monday and Tuesday with a side eye on that stalled frontal boundary. Highs both days will be in the upper 70s to lower 80s. Then later next week we will watch a wave develop on the front and perhaps bringing in some clouds and rain. No heat waves are on the horizon and this 5 day stretch of low humidity will certainly be welcomed by most folks.
