The Curse of the Onshore Flow But Warmer Air Returns Friday Showers Storms Late Easter Sunday

The Curse of the Onshore Flow has descended upon the Northeast and Northern Mid Atlantic states but it will be somewhat short lived. Easterly winds will bring in moisture, chilly air, and keep the area in lots of clouds all day long. Overnight rain is now in New England and moving east but you can expect some leftover patchy rain or just drizzle today. It also will be some 30 degrees colder than yesterday’s record highs around 80 degrees and highs today in many areas across Eastern Pennsylvania to Southern New England will not be getting out of the 40s. In fact some areas will be sitting in the lower 40s all day long.

WEATHER RADAR

Expect tonight to be overcast with patchy light rain and also some patchy fog with steady temperatures in the 40s. Friday we will see the onshore flow relax as a warm front to the north forces the winds to bend from east to south and then southwest. While the morning is likely to be rather dreary we should see skies inland go partly sunny before too long. Even the coast could see improvement later in the day.

There will be wide spread in high temperatures ranging from the 50s along the coast of Long Island and New Jersey as well as south coastal New England but inland highs should reach the mid to upper 70s depending on how much sunshine develops. Saturday will be even warmer inland with highs reaching 80-ish in some places away from the ocean but the closer you are to the ocean flow, the lower temperatures will be. It should be no worse than partly sunny.

No rain is forecast for Friday and Saturday but we do have the risk for showers and thunderstorms Easter Sunday. Low pressure from the Plains heads to the Great Lakes and there will be a trailing cold front that will be moving east. This front is moving a bit faster so it looks to arrive during Sunday morning rather than late in the day or Sunday night. The result will be some showers and thunderstorms for the first part of Easter Sunday and then developing sunshine in the afternoon.

The faster arrival of the front means lower high temperatures for Sunday so highs will generally be in the 60s and likely achieved early. Much colder air will be returning to the Northeast and Mid Atlantic states for the first half of next week. Weather conditions will be dry Monday through Wednesday but you can expect to see below normal temperatures.  Eventually the colder air pulls out late next week. It will also be dry with below average precipitation.
