Thanksgiving Week Weather Looking Dry Cold

We continue to focus our attention on the weather for the weekend and next week Nothing much has changed really over the last few days. In spite of the wish-casting of so many in the social media space, JOESTRADAMUS remains rather skeptical of any sort of Thanksgiving Day snow event. While he understands that the snow lovers of the world are excited about the prospect for the first snow, it does not take away from the fact that you can’t wish it to happen. This is why it is more important to get a sense of what is happening in the upper layers of the atmosphere rather than focus on what some model does at a certain time of day for a certain point in time in the future. It is far less stressful this way. Judging from what is going on in the latest run of weather models it would seem that the colder than average part of the equation is going to work out okay. However it does seem that there just may not be enough room for anything of consequence to develop until beyond the Thanksgiving holiday.

SATURDAY EVENING GFS FORECAST

cloudy chilly thanksgiving

First off is a front coming through for Saturday which will produce widespread showers across the entire area. That will move through and Sunday will be windy and colder with a few scattered rain or snow showers running around with temperatures in the 40s. After that it seems that we will be dry and chilly thanks to the upper air pattern which is very blocky but not exactly in a way that favors storminess along the East Coast.

The problem is one of room and there isn’t much room at all at least from the viewpoint of the European model today. The European has been arguing this idea for days now and we seem to be drawn to this idea rather than the GFS model which has more room for something to happen along the East coast. The system swinging into the Great Lakes replaces the one in Southeastern Canada. This creates a strengthening northwesterly flow aloft in the Northeast which is not conducive to bringing snow or rain up our way.

THANKSGIVING UPPER AIR FORECAST

lf this is right Thanksgiving day will be windy and rather cold but it will be dry with some sunshine and clouds and that’s it. Notice there is energy that drops into the Gulf States with low pressure developing in the Central Gulf of Mexico but it remains to be seen whether this is real or not. So in the meantime we still remain rather dubious of any weather issues beyond the front that comes through on Saturday.
