Thanksgiving Sun & Clouds Gusty Winds Cold Into The Weekend

Happy Thanksgiving to all. Bundle up because it is cold and somewhat windy outside. Low pressure in the Eastern Great Lakes will be moving slowly eastward over the next 2 days so winds will be an issue though we are below wind advisory criteria. Winds will gust into the 30 to 35 mph range at times this afternoon and perhaps a bit higher tonight. Skies today should be no worse than partly sunny. Lake effect snows will develop in Upstate New York so we will see snow showers on the radars well inland. Temperatures today will probably hover in the low to mid 40s at best all day long and then take drop tonight. Friday morning lows will be in the 20s to around 30 degrees as skies at least will be partially clear. Winds of course will make it feel colder.

WEATHER RADAR

Heading into Friday which traditional is the big shopping day to kick off the Christmas holiday season, gusty winds to 35 mph or more will continues as the pressure gradient remains tight. We expect to see skies no worse than partly sunny but it is going to be cold with high temperatures just in the upper 30s and lower 40s and of course the winds will make it feel at least 10 degrees colder.

The weekend begins cold however at least the winds will be easing as the day wears on as high pressure moves overhead. We can expect mainly sunny skies Saturday. It may still be a little breezy in the morning but the winds should relax in the afternoon. High temperatures Saturday will just reach the lower 40s.

Meanwhile we have a storm that will be forming in the Central Plains and taking a track to the Lower Great Lakes and eventually into Eastern Canada. Big snows are forecast for areas across Iowa, Illinois, Wisconsin, Michigan, & Northern Indiana. The cold front with that storm system will be pushing eastward. As temperatures warm ahead of it we will see some showers developing during Sunday, mainly from late morning into early Sunday evening. Sunday temperatures will reach into the 50s in most places.

Once this system exits will be dry on Monday however the front will stall across the Gulf States and low pressure is going to develop on that front and take a track northeastward to the Mid Atlantic coast and then offshore. Colder air comes in ahead of this but how much remains a question as well as the track offshore as warmer air does lurk nearby. We will will see something on Tuesday regarding precipitation, snow rain, or both depending on location. We are waiting to see whether colder air becomes more important with this system and that will take a few more days to figure out.
