Temperatures Moving Higher Weekend System Mostly Rain

After a chilly start we are seeing temperatures moderating today with some sunshine through high clouds. The disorganized storm system that will bring a cold rain here on Saturday is spreading out a lot of high clouds well ahead of it. This will likely keep temperatures lower than the otherwise would be. Highs should reach the low to mid 40s regardless. In spite of the high clouds that are  around there isn’t any precipitation anywhere close to the radars are nice and quiet.

Tonight high clouds will help to hold temperatures up a bit. Most lows will be in the 20s to lower 30s in the warmer urban areas. Friday we will have some filtered sunshine early through clouds and temperatures should nudge up a bit higher as we head for the mid to upper 40s.

A chilly high to the northeast will turn the winds to the northeast as the day wears on Friday and we will chill down into the 30s Saturday morning ahead of our developing weather system. There is a minimal amount of cold air even for inland areas and frankly this is a weak system that will produce a round of rain Saturday. There could be a few snow flakes in the mix at the start inland and perhaps inland at the finish but other than that threat for any accumulating snow will be limited to elevated areas well to the north and west of the coast from Northern Pennsylvania to Upstate NY into Northern New England and that’s it.

For those of you travelling this weekend to the north or northwest, snow forecast amounts are relatively minimal and will mainly be confined to the higher elevations well inland, probably above 1500 or even 2000 feet so unless you are mountain climbing there should be no real issues.

With a minimal amount of cold air around we would expect a minimal amount of icing issues from this system and that indeed the case and likely confined to where cold air gets trapped in some areas due to the terrain.

Next week looks to be mostly on the quiet and mild side for much of the time. There are no impending storm systems to worry about and if we wind up with something during the work week it would simply be a repeat of this one. Next weekend might bring something a bit more important but the issues of cold air remain as arctic air is locked up way to the north in Northern Canada and over the Arctic regions and there isn’t much of sign of that breaking down anytime soon.
