Temperature Records Likely To Be Set on Friday

The warm air over the east will have a west southwest wind to play with on Friday so once any low clouds and fog burn off in the morning we should have some sunshine even though the sky might have a bit of a hazy look to it. The low sun angle this time of year takes a way the brightness plus the low clouds tonight might linger at least into the afternoon. Temperature records are in jeopardy across New York, New Jersey and Connecticut.

My guess is that temperature records at the local airports will be challenged. Newark’s record high is 80 and that might be pushing it a little but not impossible. Late in the day a cold front will approach. There isn’t much moisture available so the front will likely produce a few showers when it comes through in the evening but not much more. Amounts are all generally under a tenth of an inch.

This time of year we should be seeing weather systems moving through every couple of days so it has been rather unusual that we have been stuck on the same air mass all week but such is the pattern with a deep trough in the west and a ridge in the east that is finally giving way.

Over the weekend temperatures will be back to normal though Saturday we still could see highs near or just over 60. Sunday and Monday will be cooler both days with sunshine but highs both days will not be getting out of the 50s.

Tuesday we will have a weak low pressure area and inverted trough from Long Island southward into what could be a tropical low just east of the Bahamas. Certainly Tuesday we should see clouds and an onshore flow. Some rain is possible as well as temperatures probably won’t be out of the 50s.
