Sun Clouds Tuesday Wednesday Chilly Dry Late Week Early Weekend Outlook

WEATHER IN 5 MONDAY OCTOBER 5, 2020 6PM

Weather conditions slowly improved during this afternoon and we managed some sunshine. We have a weak upper trough to the northwest that will be passing through tonight into Tuesday. The satellite is showing some clouds in Pennsylvania and Upstate NY and those clouds will be passing through tonight. Temperatures overnight will settle in the 40s inland while warmer urban locations and coastal areas will bottom in the 50s. Even though we have some patchy clouds on the satellite, the regional radar shows nothing of consequence so we will be dry overnight into Tuesday morning.

Tuesday will be dry with some sunshine to start. Some patchy clouds will develop midday and into the afternoon in areas along the coast but it should be mostly sunny inland. Highs will be in the upper 60s and lower 70s. There are no important changes in the overall forecast for the rest of the week. We should be in cruise control. Wednesday we have a weak cold front that will move through in the evening. We will throw in the chance for an isolated shower otherwise it will be no worse than partly sunny. Highs will reach 70 to 75.

Behind the cold front is a shot of chilly air that will be brought down from Canada. Low pressure will strengthen to the northeast and we will see chilly conditions Thursday with sun and clouds. Highs will be just into the 60s. Then we head down to the low to mid 40s Friday morning in warmer urban locations and along the coast while many inland areas will be in the 30s. Depending on whether the winds drop off since it will be breezy Thursday, we could see some frost inland Friday morning. Friday will be mostly sunny with highs just in the 50s to around 60 in most places.

The Columbus Day holiday weekend has us in a quandary. Tropical Storm Delta formed this morning in the Central Caribbean and it will become a hurricane tonight as it heads northwest into the Gulf of Mexico. Delta is forecast to become a major hurricane during Tuesday as it is strengthening rapidly this evening. Hurricane warnings for Western Cuba and the northeast corner of the Yucatan Peninsula.

Tropical Storm Gamma is spinning down now just north of the Yucatan Peninsula. It appears that Delta will be the dominant system as it strengthens and it appears that the bullseye again will be the Louisiana coast.

After it moves inland the remnant rains will move northeastward. The GFS is rather fast with this as it lifts up the remnant low quickly to the northeast. It brings rain in later Sunday and then it moves out on Monday. To the north a short wave moving across Southeastern Canada was show to suppress this to our south with no issues but the GFS model and the European are much weaker with this system. It passes to the east on Sunday allowing room for this to lift northward. The European is slower and would keep Sunday dry and bring some rain here on Monday. Regardless of this we can say that Saturday into Sunday morning for sure will be dry. Saturday we will have sunshine and temperatures will bounce back into the 70s. We will resolve the remnant rain Delta issue in the coming days.
