Thunderstorms Late Today Cold Fronts Lie Ahead

We actually have a weak cold front overhead that is sinking southward and it should allow the dew points which are sitting close to 70 into midday to drop this afternoon. Also some high clouds are streaming eastward mixing with sunshine. Otherwise it will be a fine day with highs today in the 80s to around 90. We will throw in a chance for an isolated shower or thunderstorms from the southern half of New Jersey and Pennsylvania southward where dew points will probably have a tougher time dropping off.

Radars are quiet for now and just look for those pop ups late today but there will not be any widespread activity and no severe weather is forecast.

Moving along to Tuesday, it will be the hottest day of the week as highs reach the upper 80s and lower 90s with sunshine. Humidity levels may hold below uncomfortable levels for much of the day. Thunderstorms could occur Tuesday night as another weak cold front moves through.

This see-saw up and down with cold fronts will bring another round of small dew point relief Wednesday with sunshine and highs in the 80s. Reasonable humidity holds on into early Thursday but then we have a strong cold front that will bring dew points back up to near 70 and highs will be in the 80s to around 90. This offers us the likelihood of thunderstorms later Thursday afternoon and evening and here I think we do have the risk for severe weather as the front moves through Thursday night.

This northwest flow weather pattern will continue to deliver rounds of dew point relief with a secondary front coming through Friday bringing yet another shot of dry air into the Northeast and Northern Mid Atlantic. Sunday brings another front and an even more impressive shot of dry air for early next week. This keeps long duration heat and humidity waves away and the very warm to hot and humid conditions last a day or two before a new fresh air mass arrives.
