Strong Winds Return Saturday Night
We just went through a round of strong winds with gusts close to 60 mph. The wind machine takes a temporary break this morning however it does get turned on again later this afternoon and tonight. A storm is heading to the upper midwest. Ahead of it we will see our winds turn to the south southwest as the day wears on and they will increase somewhat as we head into Thursday. This time we will be ahead of a cold front so temperatures will warm up today in the 50s to near 60 except near the ocean and along the coast. The cold ocean will keep temperatures in coastal areas in the 50s and even the 40s this afternoon. The strongest winds will probably occur late Thursday and Thursday evening ahead of the front and before showers get here Thursday night.

Thursday’s Wind Gusts
You can see the beginnings of that storm taking shape on the satellite loop this morning. At least we will have plenty of sunshine today and Thursday should be partly sunny though some low clouds could get into the mix late Wednesday night and Thursday morning.

Radars will remain quiet until Thursday evening once showers begin their approach from the west. Temperatures on Thursday could make a run for 70 inland but again coastal areas will be subjected to a wind off the ocean keeping temperatures cooler.

Thursday’s High Temperatures
Showers will be here for Friday. Then comes Saturday where we dry out before an arctic front arrives late in the day. A storm will intensify to the north and this will tighten the pressure gradient yet again for Saturday night. Some showers or flurries could fly with the frontal passage before the winds being to howl again from the west.
Strong Winds Return Saturday Night
This map shows sustained winds on the order of 20 to 30 mph which means the gusts could be more than that. I would expect gusts of 40 to 50 mph after the arctic front passes for Saturday night into Sunday morning. Temperatures Sunday morning could be in the 20s just about everywhere. At least the weather for much of the weekend will be dry.
