There are 2 lines of heavy downpours and possible strong thunderstorms that are on the weather radar right now. The first is affecting Long Island & Connecticut with heavy rains and gusty winds. The second is forming in Eastern Pennsylvania and will be moving across between 2am and 6am. That second line has the potential to strengthen and some thunderstorm cells within that line could become severe overnight so areas from New Jersey to Southeast New York including the Hudson Valley & New York City, Long Island and Connecticut are going to feel those storms in the next few hours. These storms have potential to produce more heavy rain and will add to the one to 2 inches plus that have already fallen since this morning. The tropical environment is strong. Temperatures are in the upper 60s to near 70 everywhere so the table is set. We have a very strong southerly inflow at mid and low levels of the atmosphere. Winds on Long Island are gusting past 40 mph right now ahead of that front.
That second line is ahead of the cold front that will move through Thursday morning around daybreak and begin the drying process. The warm air will remain with us through the morning hours with temperatures in the lower 70s before the cooler air begins to arrive during the afternoon and certainly tomorrow night when temperatures will drop into the upper 30s and lower 40s by Friday morning. There could be another shower around noon time or so when that cooler air begins to move in.
Friday will be dry with some sunshine but highs only will be in the 50s. Halloween looks good with some sun and high clouds. Highs will be again in the 50s. Sunday I am leaving rain out of the forecast though there may be plenty of clouds around.
Longer range no big storms are on the horizon through the middle of next week.
