Squeezing In A Dry Sunday Some Rain Overnight Severe Weather Risk Monday Heavy Rain Coastal Storm Monday Night Into Tuesday

We are going to see sky conditions slowly deteriorate as the day wears on. Sunshine will give way to arriving clouds as a warm front to the south starts to edge northward. High temperatures this afternoon will be in the low to mid 60s. No rain is forecast today. The radars will start to show rain developing over parts of Pennsylvania this afternoon but that rain should hold off until well after dark as it moves northeast. This will not be a long lasting shot of rain for overnight as it will last at most a few hours and will occur mainly along and north of Route 80 in New Jersey and Pennsylvania and in the Hudson Valley to New England.

Temperatures overnight will be in the 50s to around 60. The warm front passes and moves to the north and then stalls across upstate NY, only to drift back southward as the day wears on. The Storm Prediction Center has the area at a marginal risk of severe weather from Virginia to just reaching NYC and Southern New England. This includes all of New Jersey and Pennsylvania.

Not much is going to happen during the day on Monday as we wait for low pressure in the Ohio Valley to begin the redevelopment process off the coast which happens Monday night into Tuesday. Look for clouds and some sun on Monday and it will be warm as highs reach the low to mid 70s.

We will be watching for the possibility of some scattered thunderstorms Monday evening but the main action will come later on Monday night and during Tuesday. The storm will strengthen offshore as it throws rain and thunderstorms back westward from Southern New England Southward into New Jersey and Eastern Pennsylvania.

The heaviest rain will be late Monday night into late Tuesday as the low rotates offshore. We will probably see some gusty winds along the coast with gale warnings probably going up for the coastal waters at some point. While the heavy rain ends later Tuesday, the low offshore will keep the flow onshore and it is likely that we will see cloudy gloom and doom conditions into Wednesday.

Rainfall amounts here are only through 8am Tuesday and it is likely we could see double these amounts before it is all said and done. We will catch a bit of a break later Wednesday into Thursday before another storm system heads our way for the end of the week. As far as coastal flooding is concerned, while there probably will be some minor coastal flooding issues we are moving away from last week’s full moon and heading into the last quarter which is good news regarding where we are in the lunar tide cycle.
