Spring Snow Storm New England

This next storm system that is headed our way with another round of cold rain and a raw northeast wind, will be producing heavy snows across interior Central and Northern New England. Winter Storm Watches are now up for much of Massachusetts, Vermont, and New Hampshire along with parts of upstate NY north of I-90. This snow will be elevation driven. There will be some areas that could receive up to a foot of snow which will be a bonanza for skiers looking for some early spring skiing adventures. While some weather model snow maps are depicting snow further south, we think that it is highly unlikely to be the case. Some areas in Northern Connecticut and the Middle and Upper Hudson Valley might see some snow and sleet Friday into Saturday morning but this should not cause any serious issues in my view. This will be a heavy wet snow that will fall which will have some impact.

Model snowfall depictions are highly unreliable even in the best of cases. In this case the Canadian and European model seem to have the most logical depiction of the area of heavy snow and even here I think the southern flank is probably overdone especially into Southeastern New England. For our area it’s a cold rain and a gusty wind Friday into Saturday morning and that’s it.
