Snowstorm Winding Down Slowly

Dry Here Through Thursday Before Rain Arrives

snowstorm winter storm warning

We continue to see Winter Storm Warnings continuing tonight over much of North Carolina and Virginia. Snow is falling tonight across much of Virginia into northern areas of North Carolina and freezing rain to the south of there into South Carolina and Northeast Georgia. We will see the snow area shift to the east and start to wind down but there is a second low that is forecast to develop in Eastern North Carolina later tonight and Monday that will linger precipitation in North Carolina for a time on Monday. This will fall as freezing rain and some snow and while not forecast to be heavy, it will add to the woes of that area. This should all pull away to the east later Monday and Monday night. Meanwhile we remain dry teased by high clouds which were with us all day long and continue to linger tonight.

REGIONAL RADAR

The regional radar shows snow in Virginia and actually shows that the northern edge of the snow did manage to reach into Southern Delaware and touch southern Cape May county in New Jersey. The precipitation is even showing up on the local radars below but it will start to shrink away southeastward in the next several hours.

Cold temperatures prevail for much of the week ahead though we should start to see some sunshine come into the mix on Monday. No rain or snow is forecast through Thursday as high pressure over Southeastern Canada and New England will be in control for much of the week ahead. Highs most days will be in the 30s to near 40. We might inch a bit higher on the temps late this week.

We will be losing the connection to cold air from Canada in the longer range so when the next storm system powers up late this week in the Tennessee Valley it will be rain. In fact the areas that just saw heavy snow will see it all washed away by heavy rains so flooding will be an issue up and down the East Coast with this storm. We will see rain from this arrive Friday night lasting through Saturday before the low moves away next Sunday. It will be a raw chilly rain with ocean winds and temperatures likely to be in the 40s.

MANY THANKS TO TROPICAL TIDBITS FOR THE USE OF MAPS
