Snow Storm Odds Increasing
Since we are now inside 72 hours of a start time the National Weather Service snow forecast maps are up and please be advised that these maps are for the period ending 7am Tuesday so it is only showing snow that falls in the first few hours of this event. Snow should develop from south to north after midnight Monday night. The mid cycle run last night of the GFS shifted significantly to the east and matches up quite well to the European model run. The European model has been the mark of consistency settling for the last few days and has varied very little from run to run.
EUROPEAN MODEL TUESDAY EVENING MAJOR NORTHEAST SNOW STORM
Right now it would seem to me that if you are just inland of the immediate coast that this is going to be a solid snow producer of a foot or more. I want to wait one more run of models before putting out an early call snow forecast. I will do that late this afternoon. At the moment the European model would suggest a 1 foot plus snow fall for everyone as well as the GFS model. Some additional confirmation from models today may lock this one up. The GFS leaning away from the coast hugger idea and embracing the more offshore look of the European was the last element we were waiting for.
Bitter cold weather continues into Monday with sunshine but high temperatures will have a tough time breaking the upper 20s and lower 30s and nighttime lows in the teens. Wind chills will be running in the teens all day as gusty winds continue.
