Snow Squalls Ending Chilly Next Few Days

Saint Patrick’s Day Sunshine

A strong upper air storm is moving through tonight making for an unstable atmosphere. We had snow squalls around the area this evening and there are still a few around on the radar. We usually see these during the winter time when in an arctic air mass. The air aloft is very cold this time of year and it is like what happens in the summer time when showers pop up here and there. They should disappear in the next few hours and skies should partially clear overnight.

We could see a repeat performance on Thursday as another upper air disturbance move through so much like today we will start with sunshine and finish with clouds and a few snow showers with highs just in the 40s. Friday we should see a bit more sun but some clouds will still be in the mix with highs in the 40s.

Saturday is Saint Patrick’s Day and the luck of the Irish will hold with sunshine and high clouds annd temperatures in the 40s. A weak wave of low pressure will go by to our south and it should be far enough south that we won’t see any showers. Sunday looks good with sunshine and highs in the mid to upper 40s.

Of course attention is focused on the next storm which will arrive on Tuesday. Right now this storm does not look anything like the others as we seem to have a much weaker signature in the upper air this time around. Monday we will see sunshine and arriving clouds with highs in the 40s. Tuesday we will see either a cold rain or rain and snow with snow to the north of the coast. We will examine this closely later this evening.
