Snow Sleet Freezing Rain Rain Advisories Warnings Continue

This winter storm is getting underway this morning but the surge of warm air coming northeastward from the westward primary low is just too overwhelming. Snow is developing on the front end but it will move through rather quickly and change over to sleet in an hour or two. Then it is sleet to freezing rain to rain and that will be the bigger question with this inland where temperatures this morning north and west of NYC are in the teens to low 20s while near the coast it is closer to 30.

FINAL CALL ACCUMULATIONS WILL FINISH ON THE LOW END OF THESE RANGES

Snow Sleet Freezing Rain Joe's Final Call 02122019

This was the final call yesterday which was already lower than everyone else..look for numbers to finish near the low end of the ranges rather than the higher end. The accumulations will be snow and sleet included.

The satellite signature really shows how the warm air is pushing northward as all the bright white cloud tops arc through upstate NY & back through the Great Lakes. Regional and local radars show the arm of precipitation moving northeastward and it should be getting underway in areas from NYC north and east shortly.

From snow to sleet & freezing rain this afternoon into this evening will be front and center here.  These are the ice forecast maps from the National Weather Service. I can’t argue with these forecasts too much. It will make travel difficult though I would think the over salted roads would keep anything from freezing at this point.

Tonight from sleet to freezing rain to just rain for most but inland areas in Northwest New Jersey and the Hudson Valley 32 will be very tough to reach. Everywhere else a change to rain and then it all ends during the early morning hours. Weather conditions improve Wednesday and Thursday with some sunshine both days and highs in the 40s. Friday brings a cold front and rain with highs into the 50s.

MANY THANKS TO TROPICAL TIDBITS FOR THE USE OF MAPS
