Snow Showers Overnight Chance For Snow Late Tuesday Into Tuesday Night

Two weather systems are headed our way as this small window of opportunity has opened up for a chance of snow. First will be during the early morning hours into daybreak Monday as a surface and upper air trough (basically a weak cold front) moves through the area. There might be enough to whiten the ground up in spots here and the National Weather Service snow forecast map above pretty much lines up the way this should play out. Perhaps i would bring the southern edge down to Route 78 into NJ west into Pennsylvania from there. That would be the only change i would make to this.

We will be getting into some clouds from this system this evening and in fact they have already arrived from New Jersey westward. Not much is on the radar at the moment but expect to see some snow appearing on the regional radar later this evening and then showing up on local radars after midnight.

Once this is all done Monday morning look for some sunshine to develop with highs reaching the upper 30s and lower 40s. Then we set up for the next chance for some snow on Tuesday. Low pressure will move from Tennessee across Southern Virginia and then offshore to the northeast. There is also some energy moving across the Great Lakes that will swing east and try to phase with the Virginia low. The phase may come too late for anything substantial but I think there is the risk for a coating to maybe a few inches. I’m indicating a large area of risk from Virginia to Southern New England. If the low is too far south (and it might be) than lean toward the coating.

Timing wise we are talking Tuesday late afternoon Southern New Jersey & Southeastern Pennsylvania into the evening..and from 7pm to 2am for areas from NYC east to Long Island and Connecticut. In a winter where snow has been a tough call, i would lean against an upside surprise. This should be long gone by Wednesday morning. Wednesday and Thursday will be 2 very chilly days with some sunshine and highs just in the 30s.
