Snow Friday Morning Another Weak System Saturday Morning

Last night’s system that slid through wound up producing a coating in some areas and nothing in others along with a touch of freezing drizzle. That system is now gone and we are chewing through the remaining clouds. The satellite picture this morning shows the first system exiting to the east with a small area of clearing between it and the next weather system for late tonight into Friday morning. We should see some sunshine this afternoon with most highs in the 30s. Then clouds will roll back in tonight with some snow arriving around 3 or 4 am and done by 7 or 8am in most places.

This system is weak and while it will have a decent looking area of precipitation with it as it moves to the northeast tonight into Friday morning, it is forecast to literally fall apart while it is on top of us around or just after daybreak. We will stick with the snow forecast from last night regarding this. A few areas to the south could get a bit of upside here and finish near the high end of the ranges while areas closer to NYC and northward could wind up seeing very little or nothing from this if it falls apart fast enough.

We then get a break during Friday with lots of clouds and highs in the upper 30s to a few lower 40s before another weak system moves in for Friday night into Saturday morning. This low has  bit more to it as it moves northeast and this also brings an area of snow and/or rain for the overnight into early Saturday. We have to be careful with the system for Friday night into Saturday morning as we see models generating a quarter to a half inch of liquid here. Temperatures are going to be borderline near the coast so it will be another tough snow forecast for this one.

Finally we have a system for Sunday night into Monday. This one is getting more attention than the others. We are leaning to the idea that models are over done and to far north with this and that a flatter colder solution might be in the offing here. Much will depend on the Saturday morning low and the interaction between it and the system for Sunday night.

This morning’s NAM model run has a very flat look to this with a lead low off the coast at the Southern tip of Delmarva and a second low back in northeast Georgia. Given the overall pattern with its very flat nature it seems implausible that we could take a low inland north and west of coastal areas. We will take a closer look at this later today as this system takes a back seat to the two that precede it.
